After spending three years in the US Army, including a hitch as a rifleman in Vietnam, the author arrived as a farm worker in Yorkville in the spring of 1974. Until he retired last year to devote himself to writing, he had spent the previous thirty years ranching, farming, woodcutting and logging in Anderson Valley.
